    Wheel bearing replacement $1850?!

I have a bad rear driver side wheel bearing on my F30 2013 328ix. The indie shop I go to said they don't have the right tool to replace the bearing and they called around to a few places and no one else has it either. Apparently, the tool and process changed in 2013, requiring a new tool that is not currently available to the public. The dealership today quoted me $1855(!!) for the replacement of a single wheel bearing. This seems insane to me, but I am worried that I have no other choice. Does anyone have any experience with these on a >2013 vehicle? I can do a decent amount of DIY things, but pulling an old bearing out myself without the right tool sounds like something I should not be trying.

    Thanks in advance!

Update: dealer down the road says $1350. Still not what I was expecting, but I guess it is better. Can't wait for some DIYs to come out showing how to do this!

Rear bearings are just like any other older ones. Axle disconnect, hub carrier off, press out and in.
If you can make a puller then it may be possible on wheel.

There isn't anything special about it. Remember to tighten all the control arms only with wheel compressed down.

Take it to a good indy shop and they will probably do it for half the price.

Yeah, it seemed like it was fairly straightforward. But when the indie I took it to said the pulling device was specific to 2013+ models and that they called around and couldn't find one, I got worried and nervous to try DIY for sure.

I guess maybe I should give it a try myself, not sure.

It's 6 hours of labor and about $350 in parts ...

The $1,350 estimate doesn't seem too far off. It'd be about $1,200 at my store.
