Wife owns a 2013 X3 28i. The rear washer pump started running and wouldn't shut off. Since I work out of state she took it to the BMW dealership to get it to stop. I believe they removed the fuse (for $60) to make it stop although she doesn't know exactly how they got it to stop and she drove home. She made an appointment for Friday to have them look at it but they called 15 minutes later telling her that they are going to have to replace the main junction box and both the front and rear washer pumps at a cost of $1,200. I suspect that there is nothing wrong with the main junction box rather it is a relay issue. Does anyone have experience with this issue and where is the relay(s) located?
Thanks for your advice,
Brett
I've been getting ready to diagnose why my rear wiper doesn't work at all and I read somewhere there is a relay in the trunk.
I would start off by checking your washer pump motors, there's a bunch of them on the X3s and they're all interchangeable from my understanding.
Swap the front windshield washer pump for the rear and you'll eliminate at least one component.
Hah FOR 1200$ they can kiss your behind. I bet you're on the right track with it being a relay or simply a bad pump or even the washer column is damaged(unlikely) Cbass is right, switching washer pumps will let you know what is going on. Heck you may even be able to swap the pump connectors and see if a different pump starts running forever.
