I used my spare key, and the car started right up.
Is the key able to be fixed? Key battery can be replaced?

you can get a coder off ebay for £50.00 called the ak90 i have used this many times i bought a blank key off ebay coded it to my ews and got it cut saving 100's from dealership unfortunately it sounds like the chip has failed in the key so isn't speaking to your ews but if you are lucky you could try the battery the key can be a pig to open though dont use a knife it will slip and stick in your hand lol i know this from experience

Be very careful as you can brick the EWS using an AK-90 unit.
If the battery was dead in the key, it would still start the car, sounds like the chip is bad/missing. I would suggest contacting this fellow: www.bmwgm5.com

I have one key that wont work in my car and have bought an ak90 programmer I fairly proficient at software and programming and looking to code a replacement key... i have not yet read the ews2 data in to the ak90, as just want to see how its done first ...
have setup the ak90 and all is working and i can read the car keys no problem, and save thier bin files i have one key that is unreadable so suspect its the transpnder that has gone faulty in that key..
I have some replacement virgin transpnders and blank keys i looking to program so i have a full set of keys for this car
my ews 2 has hardware version 02 software version 02 and 2d47j chip mask.. i have read that by writing the key data back to this ews2 unit can brick it... do i need to write the data back if i am only making one key that is already in the table of keys in ews analyse ?
I can read key 1 and key 3 valet key with the ak90, but the other key.. possibly key 2 is unreadable.. if this key shows up in the key table when i read the ews2 unit can i just make a new key 2 and not write back to the ews2 unit

so update on this have successfully read the ews 2 with no problem.. first few times i got pin no touch then it started to read it, i read it 2 times successfully and saved the binary to two different files... the ews analyse button will not analyse the bin file. anyone have any idea why i cannot analyse the bin file ?
I have been given a bin file by someone else i just used that bin file to play about with the ak90 programmer and that bin file analyses great.. anyone please help me i would like to be able to make some spare keys for my car but if the analyse part wont work on my bin file i am at a loss as to what to do...
