I have a 528i sedan from 1999. I got it from my older brother who never got around to fixing it. its been sitting on a lot for just about a year and when it was put there there wasn't any damage on the out side of the car but some bozo hit the side of it and made a huge dent. The dents on the driver side door and drivers passenger door. The dent is so big that it wedged the door closed, like i cant open it cuz of the dent. Any way I just wanted to know any problems I got to look out for when i'm fixing the car? (not just the doors)(reason i'm saying this is cuz I din't know the type if bits and peaces that need to be fixed like gaskets and other some things that I need to watch out for, aka basic maintenance) The car it self has 150k miles and has a few spots of rust but I want to fix that too. Other wise its in pretty good condition under the hood. I have only looked at it and haven't driven it yet so I don't know any thing else at the moment but hopefully ill keep posting and making updates to keep you guys up to date. (I want to put some images up but i'm not sure how yet lol)
Pretty sure theres a thread were they explain the basics of e39 ownership, but considering its been standing i would do plugs, fluids&filters, check for vacuum leaks, and probaply prepare for some suspension maintenance as the outer tierods and control arms are prone to wearing out as are various bushings
