    New 650i owner (6-speed) 2006

Hey all just bought a 2006 650i Coupe 6-speed last week.

    Previous BMW's I have owned

    1995 M3 S50 Coupe - sold
    1998 M Roadster S52 - parted out
    1993 318i parts car - parted out
    2014 328d x-drive - wife's car

I also have a 1995 RX-7 with an LS swap and 6-speed as my toy/project car. 2000 Ford Excursion 4x4 tow/snow vehicle. 18' open wood bed car trailer.

I do love driving the 650. Clutch feels nice, not too heavy, not too light. Plenty of power and very smooth ride! I do all my own work/maintenance on my cars and the 650 will be no exception. I am going to replace every gasket that could leak oil probably in April after I finish the LS swap I am doing for a friend that is occupying my parking space in my garage currently.

    Plans for the car:

Replace oil pan gaskets, timing cover gaskets, valve cover gaskets, alternator bracket gasket, fuel filter, cabin air filters
Flush the coolant system. Probably upgrade the over flow tank.
    Magnum Force cold air intake
May replace the motor mounts and trans mounts while the engine is supported to replace the oil pan gasket.
will take a look at the guibo also may just replace it regardless.

    Optional but Want to do:
Replace silver trim with Carbon Fiber trim from an M6

I'd like to replace the nav/I-drive M-ask system with maybe the Avin system since I have no inputs other than an FM transmitter and I don't use any of the other features the stock system provides.

May go with different wheels down the road. It currently has a square setup 18x9 I think 245/40/18 all around.

Car is in great shape. Not super high miles but not low miles. 128k, that's why I am going to replace all the gaskets.

Happy to have a Nice BMW to drive to work every day. I live in the city and only have a 6 mile commute.

Upgraded my interior with Carbon Fiber from an M6. Was pretty easy to swap out and looks great. Bought it on ebay when they had a 15% deal going on the other week.

Last night I replaced the seal around my windshield and installed a cold air intake. I got the aFe Magnum Force stage-2 Pro 5R Cold air intake system.
I ordered the windshield trim from ECS Tuning. My original trim fell apart as I removed it. I cleaned out where the trim was and pressed in the new trim. It was a little tough to get in but I eventually got it in. Took about an hour total. Then spent another 30min installing the CAI. I will get some photos tonight.

My wheels are a square setup and don't look good in the back. I have some 10mm spacers from a previous BMW that I am going to put on the back to even things up. I'd like to get a set of staggered M5/6 wheels to throw on there but I think I am going to get the avin nav/info center first https://avinusa.com/8-8-bmw-5-series...on-system.html

I think the AVIN and some different wheels and I will be done with this car and leave it be. All other funds will be focused into my 95 RX-7.

I put some 10mm spacers I had laying around on my rear wheels last night along with some 40mm wheel lug/bolts. That helped a little with the inset of the rear wheel compared to the front. I think with how the rear quarter panel flares out at the top and with a little camber in the back it amplifies the need for a wider rear wheel.

I put some new BMW center caps on the wheels also while I was at it because mine were showing their age pretty badly.

I found a nice write up on bimmerfest forum on installing a sub in the trunk. I had a few subs and amps laying around so I decided to do the install. The way the car is setup makes it super easy to do a completely clean amp install.

While I was in there I found that my HD radio box was unplugged and the cable had a jumper in it. Im guessing it went bad at some point and the whole stereo wont work if that is bad so they just bypassed it. If I can find a cheap replacement I might go that route. I didn't remove the box because it was under the amp and whatever is above that (gps module???) so didn't feel like doing that much work. I will get some photos of the amp install. Can post a link to the page I used.

20190212_163710 (2).jpgVenom, I went with new wheels/tires from R&R. They are 20", made by Spec 1, model SPL 202. So far I really like them.
If you do the Avin thing, let me know how it goes, also what does the cold air intake do for you?

    those wheels look nice.

Id like to get a set of used M6 wheels if I can find a good deal.

The Intake frees up some horse power that you lose having a restrictive stock air box. The filter is a lifetime filter that you just clean/oil at regular intervals. The company states its a 12hp gain. Which will also help with fuel economy because the engine is getting air more efficiently.

I very likely will go with the AvinUSA system. It keeps the factory look and all the factory controls but adds android and apple features a long with a host of other options. Plus its much easier to add other components after that.

could potentially be interested. Shipping from Austin might make it a little too costly though. Shoot me a PM with what you are looking to for them.

took a picture the other day. I had to get a new windshield due to a random crack that happened on Easter. Not sure what it cost but the glass company had to order the windshield from the dealer. Lucky for me my deductible is only $100 for that sort of thing. Sucks though cause I recently replaced the trim around the windshield and that got tossed with the new one. Should have just waited but I didn't know my windshield was going to crack a month later! Oh well!

Nice looking car! Did you do the Avin system? I did, not without some headache's... But now it is up and running. I also just replaced the coolant thermostat to a lower temp rating, it is running about 92C, versus the 105+C.

Thanks! No I have not yet. Focusing my car funds on my RX-7 currently. I think the Avin is the route I will go though. I'd like to install a back up camera when I do that also.

Here are a couple from the Dragon last year. I have the car pretty stripped down right now for some upgrades. Prepping it for paint and such.

Looks good. I really miss mine. Was the hood scoop necessary for the engine to clear? Seems like I don't remember that being a normal thing for the swap, but I've been out of the rotary scene since like 2009 or so.

no the hood is not a requirement at the moment. It was on the car when i bought it but I am going to fill it with a supercharger.
