I have a Bentley manual. I was just hoping I could find a picture of the plug, with a + and - pointed at or circled.

Yeah, the Bentley is okay when it comes to the wiring diagrams, but do look for the BMW WDS as it has what the plugs look like and has the diagrams. Another reason for having an older computer/laptop offline as you don't need the internet for it to work.

I'm pretty sure 2 of the metal connectors in the seat plug are bigger than the rest. So I figure power and ground. If I mix the up will it ruin something or just move things backwards?

Is it possible on the electronic/software side to get the 6AT used in the E90 and the M54 530i to work? GA6HP19 is the trans. It was used in other cars, even one with the same engine. And it would be free.

I would be worried about the length, for I am sure a 6AT would be larger and longer, thus a different driveshaft.

Don't really think I can get the electronic side working, I can't find it done. Got seats, driver seat switches is bad. Unfortunately they cut the belt, as did the reject who removed the seats from my car. So I still need belts and a trans. I don't see any harnesses where the seats go, maybe they weren't power? But I'm pretty sure those are heated seat button under the HVAC controls. I want to swap the trans and then maybe rebuild the one I pull.

both front seats will have a harness, doesn't matter if they are powered or not. It is for the seat belt ignitor, and of course the bing/bong for the warning, it will be a yellow connector. Of course it will not have every wire ran for all the options, as BMW stopped doing that years ago.

Lazy folks cut stuff, and I take my time at the wreakers because you never know who will need that part.

It will be coming out where the vent for the floor is. Also should be a "+" cut into the carpet as well, am a bit surprised that the airbag light isn't on.

the shifter sticking and the wiggling helping...I found out by pulling up the shifter boot that there is basically a spike off the back of the shifter and a channel in the piece behind it that it fits into. because of the play, it gets stuck to the side instead of going in the channel. Im wondering if I fix the steptronic switch problem, can Iuse manual mode to further diagnose? if it even works. It looks theres a lot of rebuild/overhaul kits. I dont know where to start on that end. Im going to try to figure out the testing on my scan tool and see if I can test the solenoids. I read somewhere that if it works you should be able to hear it click.

Not trying is better than not doing at all, so give it a go and see what happens. Again, as you note where I am, I don't see too many auto's so you understand that is isn't my speciality.

The buyer for my e34 seems to have fallen through. May work to my advantage. Had a guy tell me he has 3 E46s on his property. Asked if I would want to trade the e34 for the parts I need to fix my E46.

I haven't gotten the seats back out yet. The replacement switch doesn't seem to work either...maybe wiring somewhere and not the switch. I did find a small wore pair cut off at the floor near the vent. I drove it the other day and it seemed to make a woosh noise every so often. When it would make this noise the instant mileage needle in the dash would go way up or way down. How can I tell if the seats I got are heated? There are buttons for it on the console, my other BMWs they were on the seat.

    Thanks for your time.

The "whooshing" sound can be a vacuum leak, so have a look at the intake rubber boots.

As the saying goes: "Give a man a fish..." Have a look here for the wiring diagrams, for that will tell you if the seat is wired or not, just google "BMW WDS" Should find a TIS website where you will need to put in the last 7# of your vin.

I was wondering if the whoosh sound was from the trans. I'll search for tis and check for diagrams. About to go pull the seats now.

Got the seats back out. Pulling the edge of the front carpet up a little revealed cut wire bundles there. So, that's cool. I have at least one parts car nearby with intact seat wiring, the one the seats came from. I was thinking about starting to pull the console/shifter. See if I can't figure out the problem with it getting physically stuck and check the wiring at the same time.

That works, just don't know why somebody would cut a harness on a running car like that, for it will always light up the dash.

So it looks like I've found the same transmission that's in the car. For $500 shipped or pick up. It's about a 4 hour trip one way. I think I'll just go pick it up. If all goes well, and I get this ZF5HP19, is it just a swap the part deal? Or will I still need to do anything computer wise?

    Thanks.

If it is the same exact transmission, should just be a simple exchange. Of course I would change the fluid, and have a look at the valve body to ensure it is clean.

Before I put it in I'll try to check whatever I should. So I need a service kit? Filter, pan gasket, not sure what else.

    Thank you.

A service kit should be all you need, unless you find a leaking input/output seal, which is not very common BTW.

I haven't had much luck on wiring diagrams. The ones I really need are the bundles to the seats and the stereo.
