This is what the alternator side of that wiring looks like.
It does look like those wires go from the starter to the alternator. In fact only one does. The two smaller wires return to the test port separately to remote start and monitor charge voltage.

And to the electronic control relay. I found them as I stripped out my old harness. I think you can actually see them in the rats nest of wires pictured above

With Danspeed's help, I was able to figure out that the wire that runs from the starter solenoid to the ballast resistor is grounding out. Thinking that they're might be a short in the original black/red wire in the loom, I ran a new wire from the starter solenoid to the ballast resistor as Dan suggested...still got the same thing happening. With the engine running, that solenoid terminal is grounding out as verified with a multimeter. When I tap the the wire against the terminal on the resistor, the engine wants to shut off.
Is it possible that the solenoid is bad internally? Or perhaps the previous owner installed the wrong starter or solenoid?...it's definitely been replaced at some point.
At a bit of a loss at this point.
