Hi guys,
I'm going to look at a couple BMW's this week. This is the first time I'm buying a car in the U.S after being out of country the last couple years. In the forum rules it says:
"If you’re seriously in the used car market, go buy an account yourself. YOU NEED YOUR OWN ACCOUNT. GO BUY ONE. IT’S ONLY $20."
I am sorry, but I do not know what this means. On the CarFax website it tells me it costs $100 for the account... I apologize if I'm not so up-to-date with the vehicle reports, like I said, I have been out of the country for a couple years and don't know if things have changed recently.
All the best,

I'm not clear as to what Carfax charges these days, but the point of that rule is to not violate Carfax's policy of not sharing their services. In other words, pay your own way.
I hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply, and yes, I understand the rule, I was just wondering what it meant that the account costs $20 when I've been searching and I've only found prices like one report for $40... Definitely seems quite expensive for that kind of info...

Are you looking at cars at dealerships or private sale? A dealership will provide you with a Carfax upon request. Unless they're trying to hide something....

Ok, this was my experience two years ago buying my bimmer. The dealer, bmw Las Vegas, had a bmw certified preowned 228i. I looked at the car fax for the car plus service records. In this case it had been out on a lease with all service performed at the dealer. All this information provided me with all I needed.

^No, I don't ever buy cars from dealerships, only private party (I doubt a dealership has any 80s and 90s Bimmer's for sale anyways, which are the cars I look at).
