I'm installing a non OEM steering wheel, with quick release.
I want to move the wheel back ~3".
I'm going with a RE QR, which states ' 2.25" thickness ', whatever that means.
How in the world do I know what thickness adapter to buy? And does the thickness that's advertised equate to actual distance from "mounting face to mounting face", if you know what I mean.
I would get the QR installed in the car and then measure the spacer you want (if any)
An extra step, but will yield the best result for you.

Great idea. And, you made me realize what I really need.
In my mind, I had to get the right thickness of adapter. But, I think what you're saying is, buy and install adapter and QR, see where that puts the steering wheel, and add a spacer if needed. I wasn't even thinking of a spacer!
Makes sense.
I didnt realize you did not already have the spline to aftermarket adapter.
I do not believe they come in assorted thicknesses, at least they didnt last time I bought one.
You pick your vehicle, you get that adapter, then you bolt your QR to that and your chosen wheel.
Stick it all together, sit in your car, see how much if any you want the wheel to move towards you.
Many times with QRs, the problem is the opposite, the added thickness doesnt let you get the wheel far enough away.

I've estimated that I want the wheel ~3" closer, compared to stock. (I'm tall, with seat sitting pretty far back.)
From pictures, adapters seem to vary several inches in thickness. I understand how all this works now, so can make a few measurements and at least decide on an adapter.
THANKS!!
