I’ve had my Z3 for three years now and I am at last going to redo the cooling system and have a few questions. Yes, I’ve read innumerable posts but I’m dense!
I have a ’97, M52, 2.8, 5 speed. I’ve seen a lot of posts about the two plastic coolant pipes/tubes and thought I must have those too. Went to realoem.com and put in my VIN and got this
R1.jpg
I don’t see the two pipes.
My questions are:
Is this drawing correct that my M52 does not have these two pipes?
I do see a heater return pipe (6). Is this plastic and therefore should be replaced?
Does this drawing accurately reflect my '97 M52 cooling system? I want to be sure all the old coolant hoses are replaced.
Thank you for your help!
Yes you have the correct diagram
Yes No 6 is the hard plastic tube and its the only hard plastic tube you have.
The two hard plastic tubes relate to the M52TU and M54 engines.

There is only one thing more pleasurable than working on a Z3, that's driving it top down on a fine day.
Every time I hear "cooling pipes" I cringe. I did them on an M52TU, but I think the M52 is far easier to remove the intake. You should have no problems.

Thanks for the responses guys. When I posted this I had no idea an answer would come from half way around the world!
On the M52 they are metal, ive never replaced them, even have a brand new pipe from when I ordered everything I saw in the diagram lol

Sorry to resurect, but can someone post the part numbers for these plastic tubes?
I am trying to piece together all of the part numbers I need to refresh the entire cooling system on my 2000 Z3. (April '99 build) I am realling struggling to find reputable sources to get a correct list of part numbers for the 52TU engine.
Every spring I say I am going to get this job done, and every spring I get frustrated trying to find all the parts I need and give up. It really has to get done this year.
Check post #15:

I strongly recommend replacing the heater hoses as well.

Thanks Natahn, the plan is to replace all the bits other than the heater core. It's been a challenge for me to identify everything. The "kits" that are available don't have all the parts, and I suspect none of them are right for the TU engine.
So far I have the following:
Heater Inlet Pipe #11531705210
Water Pipe #11537502525
3 Heater hoses #s 64218377673, 64218376608, and 64218362777
There are the obvious components: radiator, upper and lower radiator hoses, expansion tank, thermostat housing and water pump. Are there any other not so obvious parts that are easy to miss? I really don't want to get the car apart and find out I didn't order something.

It wouldn't hurt to toss in a new temp sensor. 3621433076
There is also a hose that runs from the expansion tank to the front of one of the heater pipes, but it was backordered when I did my system so I never replaced it. It's held up just fine and you can reach both ends with everything in place if you ever need to replace it.
Hose part#:
11537505831
Also, the grommet on my water valve was missing, so ordered one of those up too. The heater hoses basically keep it in place, but was nice to have that mounted properly.
Oh, and don't forget to buy coolant (you'd be surprised).
