    DK wiper arm

So I've seen all the write-ups for DK refurbishment; I need to do this as one of mine has a sticky butterfly plate so I know I probably need to re-grease the gears. I'm concerned about removing and reinstalling the wiper arm though to gain the access as the write-ups mention it being a push-fit and needs to be done accurately. How have other people recorded how it sits before removal? This sort of action gives me the fear as it reminds me of a horrible job I did once where I had to remove speedo needles in another car and could never get them to work accurately again!
If I had a penny for everytime someone commented on my poor fuel economy, I'd have enough to get it to the petrol station.

I cleaned the DKs on my car about a year ago and did not find it to be a difficult job. Mine had never been opened up before and they are assembled with one-way security screws that I removed with vice-grips. Just be sure to order some screws if you do not have a source nearby. I don't remember the lengths but there are both 6 and 8mm. I used some stainless socket heads because there isn't enough room for hex head screws. Since the motors have very strong magnets you will have to be careful removing the rotors. You will need to pull the brushes away from armature before you can remove the rotor. And, be careful not to touch the wipers because they bend easily. Then I think you can remove another section of body to access the gears to clean and re=grease them. You can also clean up the armature to remove an brush or carbon residue from it.

Mine were so gummed up so butterflies would not even open. Sorry, but I dont have any other photos of process.

Thanks, my main question is about the wiper arm in the 3rd picture; that needs to be prised off in order to remove the cover beneath to access the gears. Can its position just be marked with a Sharpie or is a higher level of accuracy needed to avoid bad readings?

Oh that's interesting, I've just noticed that the guts of your dk differ quite a lot from those in the pics in the write-up I was looking at

I should have taken more photos. I dont remember, but the wiper arm may have had a slot in it to lock it into position when its mounted.

On my website there are move pics of opened up DK's under fixes>>> Intake System>>DK
Test data are in reference data >>control systems>>>DK input details

I have never touched the wiper arm, as I was afraid that this could cause problems when not assembling it correct. The wiper position is preset at the factory.
Have cleaned many DK's usual problems are stuck brushes and dirty commutator.

Oh my word I want to find the person who thought one way bolts were a good idea on the dk's and 'throttle' them ha ha. I can loosen the 4 big ones fine but my mole grips were too chunky for the little ones. I've ordered a smaller pair in the hope they'll work but obviously I'll want to replace them with normal bolts so can anyone confim the size of the smaller ones? JDP530 I know you said there were 8mm and 6mm but the four big ones are M6 so I'm guessing the little ones are M4?

Sorry about the wrong info. Was trying to go by my old memory. I found the old bolts I replaced. They are 6x40mm, 6x25mm, and 4x12mm.
