    Battery issues

I have a 2002 330Ci convertible. It appears that the battery is toast. The part number is 61 212 353 808. It doesn't appear that this PN is still current. Has anyone had to replace one of these? Would a Duralast platinum work in this car? Or any other battery that people are happy with. I can't find a manufacture date on the battery. It has a sticker on it from BMW that says D6. I've got years of records on this car and I can't tell when, if ever, this battery has been replaced. The battery in my 95 325is lasted more than ten years. Since it's a 2002 will I have to have the battery coded?
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Get a battery with the same capacity, size and an external vent. I've got batteries from Advance in both of my BMWs.

Gave away my BMWs, driving a VW and an Audi now.

    +1

I had BMW battery's last 10+ years, as the one in my M3 is 11 years old. If you want to stick with the OE battery, Exide makes them for BMW. But if you want a BMW battery, here is the P/N: 61217553952

And no you do not need to register the battery with the car.

I chose the Everstart MAXX H7 from Walmart. It was $150, higher CCA & AH and has a 3-year warranty so if a warranty service is needed, any Walmart will make the exchange.

Where in Portland are you? Do you have any snow? I live in the cascade foothills and haven't been able to drive my car since the 2nd. I think that is why my battery is having trouble. We have a couple of feet of snow and I can't drive without getting high centered. Good thing I have a pickup truck with a lot of clearance.

I'm in SE near the Johnson Creek Fred Meyer. Just patches here and there. It's not a concern for any drivers.

After it warms up, I intend to go out and change my Alternator. I've already removed all the needed bits. Just need to unbolt the old one and bolt in the new one.

Convertible uses a special battery that is not the same as coupe/sedan (it is a little smaller).

    Genuine part:

    Otherwise it is a 49R

I have had to replace mine twice

BTW, unless you have confirmed there is a rectifier or bearing issue, then you only need to replace the voltage regulator on the back of the alternator. Cheaper and not hard

The Convertible uses a standard H7 Group Battery.

I wanted all new bits and pieces and not a new Voltage Regulator on an Alternator that was 17 years old and had 138k miles on it.
