Hi all,
Just pulled the trigger on ordering a new cat-back exhaust for my 735i. It all started when I had the center bearing replaced and the rear muffler was too rusted to reinstall. I've been living with just the center resonator and some flex pipes going out the back, but recently the resonator started to get really loud. I'm sick of the drone and the VIBRATIONS - that's my biggest annoyance, feeling every throttle input from the way it resonates + the rattling from the loose muffler-medium/honeycomb stuff in the center muffler.
When I first decided "it's time," I went to several custom exhaust shops in my area. None of them wanted to do a custom job for a reasonable price (old BMWs are scary, apparently), and the stock replacement costs a minimum of $1.2k just for the parts!
After some searching I came across Billy Boat Exhaust. They have good designs and their reputation is solid, BUT I can't find any reviews online for the E32 system. I can find videos of other BMW Billy Boat systems (like the e34, which sounds great!!), but no 7 series. I like that their thing is 'no drone' and they make every component out of T-304.
There's really such limited options for the 735 that I decided I might as well be the guinea pig, so here goes nothing. Searched through way too many google pages, and the best deal I could find with free shipping was from Jegs using a discount code, save $100 off $1,000 for tax season.
I think I made out pretty well. Exhaust is $962 by itself without taxes, so it would've been $948 total without the filters ($75 off $750). But I opted to achieve the $100 off $1,000 discount - ultimately ended up with $959 total, including a bunch of extra filters for only $10 more. Most of the discount goes toward covering tax, but oh well.

Nice! Post a video when you have it all installed! I have been looking at exhausts for my e32 740, and there isn't much out there designed for that car. I thought Billy Boat used to make an exhaust for the m60 back in the day (maybe it was just the e34 540). Supersprint still makes a catback resonator and muffler for the e32 740il, so I might go with that if I can find a good price.
Will do!
It strikes me as odd that Billy Boat doesn’t offer a system for the 740’s. Surely 740’s are way more plentiful than 735’s/750’s... so why not capitalize on the larger market??

For what it's worth, I LOVE my B&B tri-flow exhaust on my E39 M5. Sounds great, not overbearingly loud (to me, anyway Bought mine used about 10 years ago.

I paid $500 for the M5’s dual exhaust setup. Pretty good deal in my estimation.

Picked up from UPS on Monday but I'm (begrudgingly) waiting until the weekend to do anything.
I'm curious if anyone can help figure out if I'm going to be waiting another week... Do I need to use new metal gaskets/donuts between the catalytic converter and the rear section? 14 and 15 on the diagram: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=18_0884
I know I need new nuts and bolts - and they're going to be a major PITA to get loose, judging by appearances. But now I'm wondering if I need new gaskets too... i.e. do they get crushed/change shape when the clamps are tightened down? I suppose they might be severely rusted - and if I wasn't so dang excited to install then I would order new ones either way because it's only ~$10 for the pair!!
Thanks for any feedback
