    The BMW oe water temperature sensor may have been outfitted with a self contained crush washer. Why this is the case with some sensors (self contained washer)... don’t know the answer. If you were to google the actual part # to the oe sensor, you’ll see some have the washer and some don’t.

    Thanks to everyone who chimed in with suggestions. I took everything apart, confirmed the oil sprayers worked properly, reset the timing again, put it all back together and she started up fine with no issues.
    I suspect the culprit was improper timing reset. This taught me a valuable lesson to be meticulous about double (maybe triple) checking my work.
