    Vacuum Leak?

    97 528i m52

Should i look for a vacuum leak? Replaced CCV system, cooling, radiator, waterpump, upper, lower hoses, all spark plugs and both upstream O2 sensors few months ago Nov.2018

All was fine till this week and these codes shows back up.

what brand O2 sensors were installed? if theyre not responding properly, they cant give feedback to the DME to adjust injector timing and control fuel mixture. id start with whats going on or not going on) with the O2's

bosch is about the only brand recommended on these beasts for any longevity, id look at live data to see if theyre reacting or not.

I thought NTK made dosch sensor?

When i look at live data it is reacting as i drive so that's why im stomped on the codes. The pic in the first post is at idle.

The NTK O2s should be fine. Make sure that you have the correct O2 sensor part number. Also, make sure that the O2's plugs are not crossed up (i.e. bak 1 plugged into bank 2 port)

See here for BMW part number - you may need to cross-ref the number to an NTK number: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=11_1471 This is plugged as a 8/1998 build date, but I think any pre-9/98 M52 is this O2 sensor (BMW# 117 81 42 7884)

Make sure there plugged into the correct connector and you didn't swap them while changing. If all this happened after the o2 change you need to check your work

The o2 were changed back in November 2018. When i replaced them i unplugged one at a time to keep from crossing wires.

So, that's all good. I think that NTK part number is correct, too. If all these codes popped up at the same time, It's gotta something pre-intake manifold. A vac leak maybe, but I don't think that would cause the no-response code for the O2s. Maybe the CVV went south and fouled everything up with oil. Does the engine run rough or spit out blue smoke in the exhaust?

Might have to check out the ccv again it was replaced with o2 sensor in Nov. I am getting light white smoke on start-up off and on when cold 50f morning here in Texas. Goes away after 5min or driving. Normally its 65+ degrees in Houston, Tx.

that doesnt look like white smoke on the video, but guess it could be the camera or something doing that. and holy frijoles its not a light smoking. whats it smell like? sweet smell, oil smell? have you been losing any coolant or oil?

Smell like exhaust to me. Small coolant loss every 2-3 weeks maybe 8oz. and no oil loss at all I Checked plugs, no oil or water on them. Also no oil in coolant and no headgasket leaks. Other than CEL codes and smoking on start up car running smooth with no miss.

That's a lot of exhaust! What was the outside temp at startup?
A quart of coolant every 2 weeks is a big loss, like, most or all of the expansion tank. May want to pull all of the plugs out and do a pressure leak-down on the coolant system, watch for coolant into the cylinders.

Sorry mean to say 4-8oz every 2weeks or so. Outside temp was about 55 degrees this morning.

Sorry for typo using my phone without reading glasses lol.

Do you take lot of short trips? A long 30+ minute run to clear out whatever is fouling up the fuel trims may help. That P1189 code is what usually pops up when the CVV goes out. But with the other codes, maybe something else is causing it.

Most days yeah only takes me about 25-30min to get to work. After driving about 5min it clear out. Only happens when car sit for awhile overnight.

Now that i think about it i wonder if oil change would have cause the smoking seems like this didnt happen till after oil was changed a couple 1000 mi. ago? When i got the car. Shop changed the oil not me.

It has conventional oil in it now. Was thinking about going full synthetic.

Thank in advance everyone helping me trying to pinpoint what the issue is
