so im looking to buy an m3 e36 or e46 and then come by this auction with a beautiful 2000 e39 M5 with gorgeous interior. Im not that mechanically inclined but I can do some wrenching and my dad knows a thing or two about cars. My question is, is the damage so severe that I wouldnt be able to fix it and what would be the biggest problems putting it back together, the electricals, finding parts? Do you think judging from the pictures there is any frame, or integral parts damage. What would be a good price for it with 95,000 miles on the engine if i was to bid on it?

What would repair cost on this thing if I was to fix it on my own based on the pictures? Anyone with experience on this thanks for the help!

Hi,
Looks like it'd be a relatively easy repair as I doubt there'd be any chassis bend or damage. That said, that might be the case, any chance you can look at the car ?
Check long favoured member Clemster on M5board, he's always parting out E39 M5's - https://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/pa...all-times.html
Cheers, Dennis!
Ya, it looks backyard repairable, but the gamble is did a frame horn get tweeked?
Check around to see if a body shop can still put their hands on the tools to pull and check the frame horns.

From what I can see and my previous knowledge you will need front rad support (not sure if removable by bolt on E39, at the very least bent back into place which can be tricky). Both front headlights. Driver side fender. Front auxiliary fan with associated plastics. Front radiator, condenser, oil cooler, trans cooler. Front fascia looks repaint able/repairable for the willing or replace. With those things I can guess $2k in repair at the bare minimum with paint. For an auction number id hope to pay $10k at most but that's at your discretion. Overall not too bad of a repair, no frame rail damage that I can tell based on the height (frame rails are slightly inside and upward of the fog lights) But that's my $0.02

The rails are straight, that thing ran into a truck or suv. Look for radiator supports with the radiator, condenser, the shrouds, cooling fan, power steering cooler, I've sourced those for $150, But buy a new radiator, expansion tank, and all the hoses. If you have to ask why, then you should go buy a Yugo, or any other car that doesn't have the letters BMW in it's name. The left air filter box is crunched, A hood, and two fenders, the front corners of the aprons will need to be straightened out, shouldn't be too bad. There's gonna be a bunch of odds and ends that will need to be looked at. But that M5 is totally savable. Might want to get good hood hinges too, not to mention the latches and most probably the front section of the cable for the latches. That cars an easy fix, Good luck.

Since the repair doesn't look that bad, it might be hard to get for that price, but at an auction, who knows? I'd be wiling to bid that much too. Good luck!
The interior on this thing looks amazing. Im with you I think this auction will easily clear 8k especially with the rarity of a manual transmission.

What’s so rare about an M5 with a manual..... ... .. . ? Man, I don’t know if you should get this rare M5...

Love the interior color, but. It seems like a lot of work, be ready for it. All m5's are manuals. Also there is the secondary air port problem it clogs and it cost a lot to clean them out here in California the secondary air monitor needs to set to pass the smog test, but your up in Washington so I don't know the emission laws up there and prices are always more because it has the m on it.
Any update? I'm curious what this M5 sold for, if you know. Hope you got it!
I don’t know if I’m too late to comment but I saw this for auction and you shouldn’t have to worry about it being a scam because it’s from Copart. They’re a good service from what I’ve seen. Just make sure that the car is from an insurance company rather than a third party. The site should tell you. Third parties are usually not the best idea for these salvaged cars
