Hello, all. I picked up this car in early December and just recently it started doing something I think is strange. As of late it seems to idle low on a cold start, between 700 and 900rpm. What I've noticed is, if I start the car and let it warm up to normal temp, and I mean the needle is in the middle of the temp gauge, it seems ok just a low idle. But if I put a load on it before then, anytime I come to a stop or just let it idle it drops rpm and almost stalls then spikes rpms to save itself. When this is occurring I can hear a whooshing sound almost like air brakes on a semi coming from under the intake manifold it sounds like. Once normal temp is reached this goes away but idle is still low. No warning lights come on. I've cleaned the original maf and also threw in a new one, acts the same with either one. Any help diagnosing this is much appreciated. I'm not sure where to start looking and cannot afford taking it to bmw. Thanks.
Could be intake manifold gaskets or throttle body gaskets. They will harden with age and seal poorly at cold temps. Once they warm up can seal up better. Not expensive.
