Fluid for 2004 330ci 6 speed Manual transmission fluid

Just bought a 330ci 6 speed Manuel what would be the best transmission fluid and would it cause damage to change it?

    Welcome to the Forum!

The correct transmission fluid is BMW MTF-2 Fluid.

Now that stuff is rather expensive, so you will hear folks recommend Redline MTL 75W-80.

I have only used the MTF-2 Fluid from BMW, since I have two cars that use the same stuff, the 5 quart jug was perfect.

I highly recommend Redline D4ATF. ATF? Yup, especially since you’re in the cold climes.

Go to www.redlineoil.com and click on the menu to get to “find products for my car.” You’ll need 2 quarts. Buy them on Amazon.

I’ve been using Redline products since the 1980s. Its products are top notch.

I'm good with RedLine MTL, or RedLine D4, or, as Turner recommends, a 50/50 mix. In my own manual transmission BMWs, I use RedLine MTL.

LOL, all you experts cleared that up, use atf or mtf, or a mixture. I laughed at the ATF sticker on my manual tranny, I guess planetary gears are gears,too..

In the old school days, we used to swap fluid every time you changed the engine oil. 75W-90 for the summer, and ATF for the winter for smoother shifting.

My Midwest farmer buddy in the Army told us of crawling under tractors in the winter with a torch to heat crankcases! old school viscosity adjustments.
