OK guys think I might have found the answer. Watching JimLevs link he described the intake cam as "jumping due to the Vanos" which is what mine exactly did. I assume its normal.
^_No pic above, however yes that is normal.
After cranking the engine over by hand you are suppose to put the cam blocks back on to check the trigger wheel positions.
You will see both in the video I posted in #23.
Thank You for your continued support I was able to finalize the timing procedure and button up the lower timing cover and lower oil pan. Will update soon.
Thanks.
Hey Everyone,
Hope you all are enjoying your weekend. Quick update.....finished timing installed covers and chain tensioner. I am now attempting to install the dreaded crank bolt. Yeah I know. Not worried about rigging it up, think I have that figured out. My concern is the torque value on this thing. Upon research I found different values. Read some threads that said 310 lb ft, then another for 440 nm and finally one that says 100 nm then 60 + 60 + 30 degree turns.
Wondering if anyone can confirm a torque value.
PS here is where I am at now...
300 ft lbs is good.

Don't worry you won't over torque and break it.
Finished up for the day. Here is where I’m at...

Good Morning All,
So I decided to return the 105 TStat and purchase the 88. This is what I purchased from ECS...
Upon inspection I noticed that it did not come with a sensor. My old 105 has it, and when I tried removing it, it broke. Upon further research I am noticing that the sensor seems to be permanently fixed into the TStat. When trying to order one, I tried pulling a part # from RealOEM but I had no luck.

#11 is what I look at with 3 seperate part numbers but they all come up as plugs and plug housings. So I guess what I want to ask is, does the 88 TStat have a sensor delete? Am I not supposed to have one?
Thanks Again in Advance.
Yeah the 88c doesnt come with the electrical connection i used a resistor on my plug to make the dme believe its still there.

Yeah, there’s no sensor on it, that’s normal. Some people don’t get any CEL’s from it and just get quiet shadow codes, while others do get CEL’s and need to wire up a resistor to fool the DME.

I see so I guess I just leave the plug off the harness disconnected?
if youre not getting a CEL, make sure its restrained so it doesnt get anywhere you dont want it to get, if you are getting a CEL, youll need to install a resistor. then restrain.
Great Thank You. I read today that the plug supplies power to an element used to heat the TStat and could be dangerous if wires are frayed. Could cause a fire. I guess I will wait and see once I fire the motor up.
Just in case are there any write ups for the resistor diy?
Hi All, hope everyone is having a good week so far. I feel stupid asking but on my M62’s oil filter housing I have 3 lines coming out of it. The 2 SS braided lines and another rubber/hard line. #15 in the pic below

Can an anyone tell me where the banjo bolt end goes into?
thanks in Advance.
Update: Big Thanks to everyone on providing advice and crucial information as I spent the last few months refreshing this motor. I call Phase 1 Complete as I started her up for the very time this weekend. Surprisingly she started right up after priming the fuel pump a few times.

Trying to to get a video up.
Thanks Again.
Congrats! Way to go. I finished my 2nd TCG repair job a month ago.
After you've run it a bit and it cools down, run a finger or paper towel around the outside lower edges and half moons of the cam covers to make sure they're holding oil. That's a common place for leaks that are hard to see. And I make sure the first oil change after a major repair is an early one.
Great Thanks for the advise. Yes I did use extra sealant on those half moons and various mating areas between the valve covers and timing covers. How early would you change the oil?
Oh and BTW, to confirm I am running an 88 C TStat which does not have the sensor in it. I had concerns about leaving it unplugged and codes being thrown. I am glad to say that so far I have no codes while leaving it unplugged.
Nice pics, and that is a SUPER clean work area. I feel shame while working on my 545i, and I thought i was keeping it relatively clean
Haha Thanks. Work area might be clean but the interior is far from it. Started phase 2 (Interior) it saddens me how people treat there cars...

That's not too bad, you should've seen my E34 when I first got it, it was owned by a heroin junkie that neglected the hell out of it.
Your carpet will clean up nicely with a good vacuuming + shampoo and a stiff-bristle carpet brush. No need for anything fancy, just take your time and do it right!

Yes, it’s unfortunate how some cars get neglected but that’s why there people like us to bring them back to glory. Can’t spend much time on her today but was able to finish up the engine bay.
