Hi All- I have been curiously searching for information about the RDC module in my 2014 X3. I had a catastrophic failure with mine which included excessive current draw alarms and the smell of hot electronics. Then the fabled "TPMS malfunction" with the display showing to check my air pressure in all four tires illuminated.
During my research I found hundreds of people with similar failures. Most importantly tied to corrosion inside the RDC module. I decided to investigate the module on my car and found indeed, my RDC also failed due to corrosion. Also the connector on the inside if the module appeared to start melting.
I contacted the dealer who offered to replace the module and program it for about $1000. I asked him about this issue. His exact statement was "we see this all the time".
During my research, I also discovered a BMW training guide. In this guide it was stated: "The antenna is waterproof which allows external mounting, usually near the center of the vehicle."
So here's my question: If all the comments (over three hundred) around the internet and some on this forum, even a very nice video showing how to repair corrosion, and including the service department at my dealership seeing this "all the time" with corrosion problems, aren't we using this forum to demand a fix to this issue?
I own two of the 2014 X3. When will the other one fail?
