    Windshield upper molding

    Hey All,

Can the upper windshield molding be replaced without pulling the windshield?

It's a bit tough to get the new one fully seated, but yes, it can be done without removing the windshield. The moulding is just to fill the gap, it doesn't hold the windshield in or anything.

Easy unless the window has been replaced by an amateur - then it can be a pain as I found out:

I feel like that is impressive to have the original, or am I just off base here? My e38 seems to get hit my a rock monthly, especially this time of year, but I guess some garage queens rarely see daily commutes.

But to the question, as others have said, it is doable, just take your time.

As far as I can determine, I've got original glass as well (at 152k miles). More impressively, my 98 Jeep still has original glass as well at 249k miles (as far as I know, certainly hasn't been touched since I bought it just before 100k). Both are a bit sandblasted from road debris, etc. and I've debated replacing both windshields just due to wear, not cracks or anything.

Hell my 01 has the original IR glass at 230 and my 98 had 170k and it was fine until I broke it.
