No its for my wife's '00 540, which is an M62TU. No vanos stuff on my PFL 98, which is why I'm asking...haven't had to mess around with VANOS stuff on my 7.

Yes, it's the same. Upgrade would be from an N62, would need to do some coding at that point. Real gains with this setup would necessitate VS Intake manifold, Dinan intake tube, wider maf housing and a tune.

Okay I guess the TB is from an N62, an extra few mm. I have the Dinan CAI, 4" MAF, TB and intake. If I get the car running after the TCG job it will be going ti Dima for the 4" MAF tune. I think it hit 326hp on the dino, a 750 may have been cheaper?

If you're making 326 at the wheels, that puts you a good bit ahead of a 750 that makes that same power at the crank (probably not more than 260 - 270 at the wheels).

Not my car but the thread that Dudmd did when he made the 4" MAF tune. I got the 4" MAF body off of ebay. I'm have a hard time getting it plumbed in.
Here is the mod for the TB,

I stand corrected it is 246hp at the wheels. I must have been fishing?

OMG! I love driving my E38. There is nothing like it that I have ever driven. My E60 M5 is like driving a turd that farts when you step on the throttle.
Here is a video of the first start, no radiator or air filter. Had to skip the TB for now because the wire colors are different than the write up.

It was so quiet I could hear the AC compressor clutching in and making noise.
I had a PS hose to the cooler start leaking so I rebuilt it and carried on. This will be the end of this thread for me, the guides and vanos are done. The spring change and TB/ MAF info will go into the existing threads.
In summary the chain guides and vanos were not difficult with the exception of the crank bolt and the crimping tool. It takes time and you have to stay organized. In hindsight I could have skipped the chain guides, it was a ton more work. My vanos was noisy after the engine was hot and the cover was leaking massive amounts of oil. I could have just inspected the guides which were fine and just did the vanos and gaskets. The biggest thing that put me off was the cost of the timing and vanos crimping tools. $300 retail for a one time job. I'm going to hold on to them for now but if someone wants to borrow them send me a PM.
I'm going to sell my wifes E39 wagon and she will drive my E38 when I'm not driving. They might bury me in this car?
