Gas pedal, temp sensor, odo gears ?s

    Hey guy,
Just picked up a 1986 635csi. Sport package 5 speed and I am loving it so far!
Car is overall pretty solid except for the couple things which I have questions about.

    1. My Gas pedal is very janky. You can depress it about a good inch before it actually gives the car throttle. Very loose feeling. Would this be a throttle cable issue? Or is there bushings somewhere in the gas pedal like an e34?

    2. My temp guage is wonky. It seems as if it is loose rather that not actually operating. It wants ti climb and sometimes holds but usually just sits on fully cold. It bounces around though. I think Ive read about a nut coming loose on back of it? Is that likely? Or may i have to chase down a sensor issue?

    3. Lastly for now, my odometer doesn’t work and I know I need gears, but my speedo also doesn’t work. Are these sets of gears linked or does a speedometer need different ones? Or something else to fix it?

Thanks in advance. Heres a picture of her!

My gas pedal was the same when I purchased mine - lube of the cable and pivot points near the throttle body fixed that.

Temp gauge - check the connections to the sender at the front of the engine.

ODO and speedo - if it was just the ODO, its most likely the gears. But with both not operating, its most likely the sender (at the diff) or the wiring from this causing problems. Speedo and ODO both run from the pulses generated from the sender.

    Hope that helps!

Thanks for the Response Tony! Ill check out those things! As for coolant, upon looking at the wires the look pretty rough. But everything is connected. IMG_1621.jpgIMG_1623.jpg

    Update,
I adjusted the throttle cable giving it less slack so the gas peddle is much better.

As for the speedo and temp gauge issue, I believe my SI board is bad or at least the batteries are, so I found a rebuilt cluster online and will just purchase that, then send in mine for core. I’d rather do this than drive with no temp gauge and circuit board electronics are the last thing I want to do.
