just picked up a 97' 740il and the owner has told me that the DSC module is no good. he showed me where it is and explained that it just simply needs swapped out. im pretty familiar working on bmws. i own an 87 E30. it breaks often.
anyway....the DSC module...is it just a unplug and swap? anything to be worried about?
ps would this have anything to do with the speedometer not working?
cheers
On your car, I believe it would the a 'plug and play' but you might want to consider sending it to a place like Module Masters for a repair. It would affect the speedo but so would a bad wheel speed sensor, drivers side rear. Do you have a trifecta of lights on the cluster?
It's been my experience that all 3 lights come on when the module is bad. My money says you have a bad wheel speed sensor. Might pull the rear drivers wheel and inspect the wire. That's the one that sends the signal for the speedo. Be sure to buy OEM if you replace it.
You might want to look into getting INPA. The download, or CD, and cables for a laptop are widely available and is a good diagnostic tool. It would tell you exactly what your issue is.
