1997 M3 Coupe sitting since 2014 **new member**

    Hey all,
Wanted to share my past two weekends. Pulled the old M3, E36 out of moth balls, well, the garage, sitting since 2014.
Started with a new battery, cranked died, cranked died, I'm sure many have you have experienced this. Shot some WD-40 into the intake and it started, no idle, it would die. Once I was able to get it started revved a bit to keep it running, over 2K and it was not that bad, but a bit lumpy.
Did the normal checks, fuel pressure √, spark plugs √ but oily on the outside. Injector number one "seeping" with the car off.
So start the part list, pulled the injectors, had them rebuilt, rcfuelinjection.com , but #1 was toast, bought a new one, valve cover gaskets and nut seals, oil filter, oil, ATF (power steering) and spark plugs.
Installed injectors, valve cover gaskets and nut seals, pulled the throttle body cleaned carbon build up in the intake opening by the butterfly and cleaned the MAF sensor with MAF cleaner, NOT CARB CLEANER, but still barely an idle maybe 300RPM then die. Screw it, pulled the ICV, huh, locked up. Blasted with MAF cleaner, have it a few raps with the handle of my screwdriver and clickity clickity.
Reinstalled everything, idle strong runs great, no smoke, changed the oil, topped the power steering and changed the plugs.
BUT....still throwing P0505 ICV, clear the codes, comes back. Anyone know why this would be?

ICV probably still sticky. Might just want to replace it or let it soak in solvent.

Get an ultrasonic cleaner, use distilled water.

Click the search button, select "search single content type", select the "e36 sub forum" specifically, try the "search titles" then try the "search entire posts".

Did I miss where you removed the liquid that used to be fuel? If not, do so before you throw parts at the car.

Did you treat the fuel before storing the car?

You probably should siphon the tank dry, add a few gallons of fresh fuel and purge the fuel line.

That doesn't stabilize the fuel for long term storage. That will clean the system but you probably have bad gas.

+1. Maybe throw in a new fuel filter too at this point.

Fuel is not the issue, the car runs great now.
But for reference, I initially put half a can of Seafoam with 3 gallons of gas prior to putting in the rebuilt injectors thinking that would clean it out.
Later on I put in the rebuilt injectors and the car runs great, just the P0505 ICV code after I cleaned it out. Maybe I didn't get all the carbon out of the ICV when I cleaned it out.

Great to hear the car is coming back. In the same boat myself, finally resurrecting my M3 out of the garage. Been sitting there since 2015. 20190223_090005.jpg
