Automatic folding top latch wire shafts broken

    Hi all,

The wire shafts that connect the folding top latches (The ones that secure the top to the windscreen) to the motor have snapped on my convertible. I remember reading a DIY here some time ago about repairing them using RC car driveshaft parts so I went ahead and ordered some universal joints to try it out, however they were too big as one hits the metal near the top motor making mounting impossible.

Before I make another order I thought I would check realoem to see if the shafts can be purchased separately. For the E36 they are not listed, but I noticed they are for the E46:

    Left: 54347042479
    Right: 54347042480

Has anyone tried using these as a replacement? Curious as it might be a more viable solution for my repair since every wrecker that I contact is charging an arm an a leg for the entire latch!

    Kind regards,
    Nik

    Hello Nik,
The part # you posted is for a E46. They are not sold separately for the E36. It's a 1 piece unit with the lock. I do however have a few I could remove from the locking assembly. I will ship to down under on your dime.
