E30 M42 1991 318i BMW Intake system repair

I have a 1991 BMW 318i and currently trying to fix the intake side of the engine and replace the first intake gasket (closest gasket to engine on intake with injectors) then proceeded to put the next stage of the intake on so I could but the bigger cast stage on, I have two hoses under the throttle body one of the hoses puts coolant out and the other is a mystery, I do not have a manual, I have photos but have yet to figure out how to post them on here. Please I am in need of help to drive this for school and do not have the money to take it to the nearest shop to fix. I have also just rebuilt the transmission and took car of the undercarriage but the intake is my last obstacle.

If one hose puts coolant out, then an assumption would be the other hose returns the coolant back to the engine, a loop if you will. However, I don’t have 4cyl to look at to it could be for air/vacuum as well. Where does it go to?

I bought the car at auction and brought it back and popped the roof to maintain the oil and filters but notice some out of place hoses that were not connected behinds the throttle body. I don’t have my computer at the moment to post the pictures but when I get home I will gladly upload the photos I have taken! Thank you but yes my suspicion it may be vacuum lines because some are covered up but split open by aging.

There should be hose routing diagrams on line somewhere I would think, otherwise blow compressed air through them to see where they go

One "problem" with that engine is the confusing and semi-complicated method BMW used to heat the intake using engine coolant. Go here first: http://www.m42club.com/forum/index.p...8346#msg128346 and see if the diagram about 4 posts down is any help. The "mess under the intake" hack will greatly simplify your task if you decide to take it on. Try the link to the master thread in that post as well to get more detail and instruction.

It won’t allow opening of the photos, can you shoot a private message with the proper link and I will look at it. I have not done the intake in over a year and a half so I will be a bit rusty in my memory, but may be if of some assistance as I have done it twice.

Some of the hoses under the intake had four outlets two were water two were vacuum I was trying to look at the parts diagrams on reloem but the site won't open, I would look at engine are intake manifold section 11 and the section 13 so see it helps.

Boyd, ok I can see the photos. What are your specific questions regarding, can you highlight the photos or refer to specific ones? I did all of the hoses under the hood when I did them as I wanted to keep the car OEM rather than the modded fixing the mess. The water lines do go up to a plate that heats the base of the throttle body and there are U shaped tubes that will go into some tri-holed rubber pieces.

I would need to pull all of the receipts I have, but if you can refer to a specific photo, I can go to Real OEM and comment back as I have done all of those lines.
