My frankenmotor is nearly done. It runs, albeit on 7 cylinders. I think I have a fuel injector issue. I didn't feel like ripping off the fuel rail today, so I decided to change the DME chip instead. Mark D'Silva has exactly the right chip for an M62 running on M60 electronics. Changing a chip should be an easy job, right? Well, it SHOULD be, and after reading this, it will be. The problem I ran into is that there is an uncomfortable amount of force needed to separate the two circuit boards. Wokke's procedure has you prying on the pin side of the DME to release the upper board. After futzing for an hour, I gave up. Timm has an excellent writeup, but I was still stuck at the same place. Instead of prying on the pin side, Timm recommends pushing the opposite side apart until the ribbon cable is nearly straight. Here's the problem with that method--it feels unnatural, downright dangerous. I swore I must have missed a screw or clamp somewhere, or I was in danger of breaking something. Nope. The ribbon cable is stiff and will fight you. Be brave and push that circuit board up. All done in time for tea. Thanks Timm!

Glad my instructions helped (written over 12 years ago when I had an E32)! Check that each of the injector connectors are correctly mated - it is so easy for them not to seat when re-fitting the overhead wiring trunks....
