Possible cracked head or is this normal? (Pictures)

Hey guys, I picked up an 02 330i 5 speed sedan for 24 hours of lemons.

Just removed the compressor and noticed this carbon between the cylinder and head.

I've driven the car and it runs extremely well and has no CEL, please tell me this isn't a cracked head... or if it is, any suggestions?

Ok, so I feel like a bit of an idiot, just cleaned the area and it looks fine. The previous owner did the valve cover gasket so I'm assuming that is what caused the buildup.. Also I'm not sure if that's the original head gasket or not, it looks multi-layer..


Anyway, feel free to delete this thread
