    Door handle: wiring below tumbler?

    Greetings all,

Does anyone know the purpose of the wiring loom at the bottom of the lock cylinder?

Swapping in a new handle and my old one is absent this piece.

    Thanks!

    22 doors and 4 tops
3 connections total can be found
dip switch for power lock/unlock command to all locks and or closing windows/softtop
    heated tumbler
dip switch that is activated when you pull the handle (this one activates the heated tumbler option)
You can move the dip switches from one handle to a new one if needed.

    Here you go.......

    UcLdyxb.jpg

White is the heater element for the lock cylinder
Yellow is the door lock cylinder micro-switch
Grey is the outside door handle micro-switch.

And that's a brand new door handle that only came with the white, the grey and yellow wiring and switches are from a donor handle that 666 was nice enough to sell me. Be aware that the flange that the plastic connector holder can be broken, letting that sucker hang down and get your connectors all smashed to bits by the window.

So the only purpose of the grey one is to activate the heated tumbler....

On convertibles, it also activates the slight window drop to allow the window the clear the weatherstripping. Both of my e36s are verts, so I dont know about non verts

Bill, to clarify, As XXXXX wondered, the handle dip is only for the heater.

The window drop sensor is actually in the door jamb. If you stick your finger inside the bear claw catch you will feel and activate the droop.

Early cars had the window dip switch in the locking mechanism on the door vs the jamb.
