Easy AIM Solo 2 DL installation (CAN BUS)

I wanted to park this here for future reference. I have spent the past week reading old posts and, while there is lots of info out there, most of it seems to me to be more complicated than it needs to be, turns out everything you need you can get from one of the instrument cluster connectors.

    I have an S54 M Coupe so it's very likely this will apply to E 46 M3.

The goal was not have to run the cable through the firewall and find the correct hookup points inside the cabin. Instrument clusters are pretty simple to slip out, just two screws. (remember to disconnect the battery)

From a BMW Electrical Troubleshooting manual I found the pinout for the white multi plug (on my car there are three, black, blue and white)

As you can see, pins 6 is the CAN+ and 7 is CAN -. on the other side of the connector, pin 23 is 12V Hot (switched) and 24 is ground.

Here, the can bus wires are NOT as described in the AIM manual (Yellow-red and Yellow -brown). they are solid yellow and solid brown.

    I used Posi-Tap connectors,

success, you can see it's charging, and it's getting info from the ECU.

Tuck everything back in and you're done.... Easy peasy! Cheers

(and my old Traqmate setup is for sale in the classifieds... )

Awesome post! Sadly, AIM is not compatible with nearly all GM PCM's as it would be awesome to be able to integrate my LS swap into my MXL dash through CANBUS. For future reference, AIM's compatibility chart is located here: https://www.aim-sportline.com/en/doc...ctions.htm#bmw

Can also tap into your OBD2 outlet (if compatible) through this device: https://www.aim-sportline.com/downlo...II_103_eng.pdf

Thanks OP, these things are not discussed/documented enough in my opinion. Takes a lot of research and guinea pigs to step up and share their knowledge!
