Still cleaning up the wires in the video, but wanted to say big a big thank you for assistance to get her running and for where she is gonna go.

Thank you zarboz, I really appreciate you chiming in. As you can see from my info I only recently joined this forum and don't really know my way around this concept. I did go through the entire OP (original post? I think that's what that means), and just came away even more confused as all the info is soooo fragmented. So, I have no idea what you mean by "use patches section" or "download files". And I clicked on the link you provided but couldn't understand where it took me........
If what is provided is not enough for you to understand/figure it out, then you are over your head and this is probably not your thing. That's what all the warnings are for.
Its not really a big deal, but just because you have an internet connection and can click on this thread doesn't mean you have the entitlement for this to be 3 mouse clicks easy. Some people seem to think just cuz they can click a mouse 3 times then they are entitled for everything to be derp-derp-iPhone-easy and they are entitled to not have to put in a lot of effort to learn anything first. This stuff is complicated and dangerous. Something I argue about with zarboz all the time (we kid because we love ) Don't get all indignant if you don't understand it. If you went into some C++ programming forum thread you wouldn't understand that either without a lot of learning and homework.
Now - if you just need your problem sorted out and don't want to learn this 'for fun' - then easy - there's loads of guys who can probably help you.
For sure doesn't have to be Terra (almost certainly won't be he's way to busy these days to help every individual car owner with their little dinky t-stat coding problem... )
What needs to happen w/ your car is:
- DME data / calibration / 'tune' 'file needs to be read off of it
- Based on what version that reports, your DME may nor may not need to be software updated, and the file re-reread (the important step zarboz always forgets to repeat to people)
- Then the tune file can be edited/tweaked/fixed - for just t-stat fix that step is gonna take about :30 seconds.
- Then rewrite the file back to your ECU
- Beverage party celebration
For somebody w/ software and cable that all will take between :15 mins to maybe :45 if you have to wait to reflash the ECU with new program.
I would suggest that instead of threadcrapping in this thread about your t-stat problem, that you make a nice fresh thread of your own that says "Hey dudebros, I need the basic thermostat re-code applied for my swap... is there anybody in OC area that can help me with this? Can provide beverages and/or small monetary compensation if required."

The haunting of GG! The truth!
First and foremost, a sincere "thank you" (hand shake) for your response and advise. With that said, it is exactly attitudes like yours for which I LOATH coming into these forums to ask anything!!!!! I have no idea where I went wrong in what I had asked that caused you to respond the way you did. But, understand this sir that presuming anything makes one look quite foolish. Anyway, thanks again and all the best!
All of this, just all of this
I agree 1000000000x percent on this
also like everything is spelled out in the wiki
how to read a partial and write a partial (the maps file)
how to checksum a file
the folders are well labeled for you to find the xdf files for your e39 540i me7.2 dme
There is even really wordy explanations about stuff that I don't have patience to type up that were donated.
if you are driven to figure it out you can I have faith.
the cut and dry of it is that it is not a click here bam you're done process
it's a little more intricate than that and has been spelled out through this forum posts original post/ GG's post / my wiki etc

I like to pretend I know stuff
Hello all, I recently got the test0 datalogger working but was wondering how if anyone had any info about knock feedback on these ecu’s. All of the available channels to log are in German and the included translation sheet isn’t exactly clear on some stuff. Anyone have any experience logging knock?
Hello,
is it possible to work with thess xdf's on a '99 540i with autmatic Transmission ?
I wanted to match with 5A01, so I tried to update to zusbnr 7539302, that wasn't possible.
Winkfp said they are from different verisons.
My software is 01119500 1800 5411
xdf files link seems broken in the first topic
Used galletto to read my Me 5.2.1, but the files is only 33kB.
What is read using galletto? The Cal area only?
Im guessing the XDFs posted on GitHub all are for the full-size rom? 256kb?
[E39 540i] - with S/C ESS kit (plus some upgrades)
[E34 540iA] - Gone
this here is for m62tu and me 7.2
the partread should have size of 64kb, and the fullread 512kb afaik.
Looks good John I've done the same with my 540.

The files we are talking about here are for ME7 not 5. Zarboz has posted an XDF for one ME5 variant but who knows how good that is what variants are out there. ME5 is way less explored.
The basic Galletto read is a short / cal read.
The main XDFs are for the short cal reads for ME7.2 which are 64k.

Exactly. There is a hardware regulator that’s 8 PM he has no control over.
That is a iPhone auto correct I’m just gonna leave it there as evidence of how crappy Apple dictation & autocorrect is.
well, it doesn't charge well.
I had a topic about this which got locked but, essentially what I was trying to say had been explained by a guy in this link;
https://www.m5board.com/threads/e39-...or-agm.521217/
last message, last paragraph. exactly the same situation with 540Is. weak batteries going weaker over time. I thought dme could be programmed to correct that.
