Lightbulb Painting BMW Style 49 Rims (on E36)

I have a set of Style 49īs on my E36 saloon/sedan , and i want to paint them , if anyone has these rims or has any photos Please feel Free to post a couple of pics , my E36 is White (alpineweiss II) , i was loking at a metallic Deepgray/black (gloss) i think the metallic will bring out the angles of the rim that just plain gloss black wouldnt , i have even contemplated bright white , or even purple , i have seen plasti dip kits near by that have chameleon purple-blue that really looks nice , but i dont have the cash to just go about trying , i would like to know your opinios , or suggestions.
    Thanks !!

    Hi,

Will you be painting them yourself? if so, compare the cost of the Plasti-dip option to the cost of preparing the wheels by sanding them down to bare metal, fixing any kerb rash, primer/undercoat and then the paint colour itself followed by curing in an paint oven.

If you are going to have a reputable paint shop locally do the above ask them to quote to do the plasti-dip option and the prep and paint option.

If you are going to have a reputable specialist wheel refinisher do the job, ask them to quote for the plasti-dip option and then the prep and paint option.

    Cheers, Dennis!

I like the oem silver. But I think a darker metallic would be good.

If you're on the cheap, and not able to pull tires off, use playing cards stuck into the lip of the wheel to mask the tire off easily. Clean really well, a light sand would be good, use wheel paint, and they'll turn out great. (I've had great luck with Duplicolor wheel paint on other wheels).
