Hello,
I have been thinking about getting another car soon, my current truck is getting close to the 300k mile mark and i want to retire it to not be my daily driver. For a while I was leaning towards a 335xi with the N54 engine. But after thinking about what I really want out of a car I am looking at 5 series now. I want a car that i can take road trips in and is comfortable.
I have read thru some of the common issues with these engines so I am aware of that. But i have not found anything on what are the other common problems on these cars? How are they at higher mileage say 150k?
I specifically am looking at X drive cars with manual transmissions.
I have read that a lot of repairs require electronic tools, is there a good DIY option for the tools? I have some general OBD scanner's already. I work as a control systems engineer so I am not scared of wiring and electrical systems. Are they any scan tools that also allow engine tuning out there? (Forgive my ignorance I am used to GM stuff and have software and a adapter to tune and flash the ECU)
Any other tips tricks etc for a newbie? I have been working on cars for 15 years so I am not scared of having to fix something, but at the same time I am looking for a car that will not need me wrenching on it every weekend.
Thanks in advance for the answers and your options

Hi guys
.I have a 1994 model E36 case 320i. (WIN: FC83864 )
And now,
I want to connect to the OBD via the 20 pin pacman connector, but I don't know what to use in a suitable module or interface.
I'm a 42-years electronicsman and ham radio amateur.
I can do it if there's an interface diagram. Or I need your help on which module to use with which program interface.
All I want is to read and erase the fault codes.
I would like to thank everyone who read my message.
Safak TASKIN.
