Hello, I am considering purchasing an E39 preferably a wagon so I have the space, and can be able to modify it the way I want. I just wanna know some issues to lookout for like common rust spots, mechanical and electrical issues.
There is a ton of info that has been discussed here: https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/f...-and-DIY-Fixes
All of the touring-specific items have been stickied here: https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...-amp-Knowledge

Is 197k mi at $7,500 for a 525 not a bit out of the ordinary? Or is that due to the individual status?
After reading around it seems 200k mi is not considered "too" high but certainly a lot of suspension and other parts will need immediate replacement?
Looking to get into a touring myself so still learning about them.
Way too high for a 525 with that mileage. Should be in the $2500 range if the car is in half decent condition, mainly been maintained. Now, if it was maintained like crazy, everything properly done, super clean, maybe an enthusiast that recognizes what he’s getting, maybe, but it being a slowpoke 525? Still too high.
I picked up a 371,000 mile 525 wagon not too long ago, it was maintained by an enthusiast since the car was new in ‘03 but he had replaced the engine, transmission and rear end from a 100,000 mile donor before I picked it up, all suspension, subframe bushings, everything was replaced, the car drives like a new tight 525 sport wagon, his wife got him a new Acura and the BMW started to sit, he asked $500, I picked it up like Lighttning McQueen, best $500 car I’ve ever bought!
That car? Even if it was a 540, with that mileage, $7500 is way too high. My ‘01 540 M Sport, a real 540 M Sport, it came from Canada, had 112,000 miles when I got it, they were asking $7500, I got it at $6200. Hope that helped.

Great help, thanks. Of all listings I've seen, that's definitely an anomaly for those miles so figured I'd ask.
Waiting game is hard.
Considering selling my 2003 BMW 540iT M sport. Clean, no rust and in excellent condition. VIN is GN92564 - if interested please email me at: marino_attanasio@hotmail.com
I've got a 2002 540it Black/Sand-beige for sale. It's got 137k miles on it. I've done a bunch of work on it lately and it is in pretty decent shape, but by no means perfect. PM me if interested.
