E31 hits 45k kilometers and new Gecko Suspension

Hi guys im new to the 8 series forum. I am from Brunei and currently own a 91 850i RHD (calypso metallic) which just hit 45k kilometers.

Thought i’d share some progress done for the car

    - Front upper and lower control arms
    - Front tie rod assembly
    - 4 brand new tires
    - Alt/PS belt
    - WP/AC belt
    - Oil and filter change
    - PS fluid flush
    - Brake accumulator
    - Spark wires

More recently, I have just decided to remove EDC shocks from my car and I went guinea pig on the Gecko racing coilover suspension which was much more affordable than the bilsteins B12 kit. I will share driving experience once they are fully installed

    Welcome.

Yes don't forget to feed back with you experience on these C/Os please.

You said they are more affordable than the B12 kit, the B12 kit is less than £200/corner in UK. The Geckos for Other BMW models are coming up at a very similar price, but not seeing any for e31s. I guess your location may have an impact on this.

Most people on here would recommend strut tower reinforcement plates for the rear, if you have not already got them, when uprating rear dampers.
    Good luck

Welcome to the forum....nice looking 8er you have there, and very low mileage too.
Was it previously one of the Sultan's cars, by any chance?
Those Gecko's look amazing...hopefully they're not too firm for the Brunei roads!

    Welcome. Your car looks nice!
I spent a few months working in Brunei back in the mid 80's (for Shell Oil). I drove all over the country in an old Land Cruiser (many of the roads were dirt roads). I remember tipping it on its side once in a ditch.. we pulled it out with a bulldozer and she was no worse for wear! Also accidently started it in 1st gear one time, it started, ran into the car in front of me and started pushing it forward before I had chance to do anything! Those old land cruisers fetch big bucks nowadays.

    Check out the product “
GKBM-039-R”. 32 way adjustable damping for both front and rear. Rear shocks as shown in the thread above. The front shocks (monotube) however needs to be welded with OEM strut. Im currently in the process of having them weld in the machine shop, will post pictures soon

No it’s not part of the collection. Gecko’s are adjustable from soft to stiff settings (32 way adjustable for racing and 24 for street coilovers), im looking forward to testing mine and finetuning it to what suits me the best!

Contact Gerry in the UK for the rear shock upper mount reinforcement plates: gspeechley@phoenixmotorsport.co.uk They were about $70 including shipping to the states.

Bottom part of the Front OEM struts were welded together with Gecko coilover suspension (monotubes). Now all front and rear has been installed with Gecko Suspension

On to wheel and camber alignment next, looking forward for the ride
