The ecu is enriching the burn mixture to be able to run the engine and warm it up. That is generally normal for that cold of temperatures.

It might be might be normal or it might indicate leaking fuel injectors. Does the engine run smooth or is the idle rough with rpm fluctuating?

We saw 4 engines (all N55s) seize themselves immediately following the cold snap we had here in MI.

    Very interesting.....please elaborate.
Do engines start then seize after running awhile?
Do engines fail to crank entirely?
Do engines refuse to turn over with wrench on crank bolt?

All of them clattered to a seizing halt within a minute of start-up. Then they couldn't be cranked by the starter or by hand.

Justification to keep them in a garage overnight.
Oil must have been hard jello. What are they putting in these 'synthetic' oils these days?

None of these cars were outside. :shrug

If the problem was oil related, I would suspect it was only because the oil had not been changed in quite a while, not because synthetic oils have become somehow inferior "these days".
