Hello everyone,
Just for some context, I'm a young high school kid with a 2003 540i M sport.
It's my first car, and I absolutely love it. I've been driving it for about a year and a half now. I guess you could consider me to be one of those young teenage car enthusiasts on a budget.
I have been researching beneficial modifications that I could do to my car, but still need some help with it. Since I've got a job, I'd say I have a starting budget of around $1000 just because I'm willing to put that much money into upgrading this car as much as I can.
I'm not looking for cosmetic stuff, although that'd be a nice touch, but am instead more interested in performance related modifications. What would be the best modification(s) that I could do myself to get the best performance boost out of this "V8 that could"? I've also been seeing videos of people with the same car straight piping it and it sounds amazing and I would one day like to do that but am also wondering if that seems like a douchy thing to do, and what it would do to the performance of the car.
IN A NUTSHELL: I'm a new car enthusiast looking to mod my car for performance upgrades... Which ones are the best? What should I do first?
Thanks!
this post is in the sedan section as well.
So what is it, a wagon or a sedan?

M Sports are great! Check in with the"Gear Grinder". He has converted his 540 to a manual and, it's supercharged! He's got the S@%t goin' on,BIG TIME! 1st go manual, then when the money's right, super charge it! I think Gear Grinder lays it all out in his posts.
