So last year, I took a learning experience upon myself. I purchased a 2001 325xi with a blown head gasket for $500. I soon learned why all the smart people here told me to just do an engine swap lol. Well it's partly that I'm hard headed, but I also wasn't in a location where an engine swap was possible. Fast forward 1 year and several $100 time set kits and helicoil kits later, it still isn't running. The metal is too weak and the block is ruined as so many tried to tell me before. Part of it was just me wanting to learn about this car and the engine. If that's my only goal then I was successful lol...
At this point I now have a location to be able to do the swap. I have aquired a donor car and hoped I could get some info from you all.
The donor is a 2001 325i... 225000 miles 😱... Engine bay really clean. No oil leaks that I can see. Outside clean. Interior trash. NO TITLE...
With no title, I plan to just strip what I need from it and dispose of it. But I wanted to be sure I wouldn't have any issues taking the engine from a 325i and puting in a 325xi.... I figured it's the exact same engine but wanted to be sure there aren't any little nuance's that I'd need to know about.
Also, is there anything else I should be taking off this car and saving before I scrap the remains?
Thanks in advance!
One issue I'm having is that my auxiliary fan runs full blast as soon as you crank the car up. Knowing that it's controlled by the computer (DME?) I was thinking I could swap in the fan from the donor car and maybe the computer also... But the all wheel drive thing... Not sure what parts that may cause an issue with if any...
Dumb question but why not swap in a 330i engine? More power and it all bolts up.
Either way you'll need to swap on the AWD oil pan, since the xi has the axles and diff going through it.
1995 525i 5-speed - Thread
I wanted to do a 330 engine. But I was given a complete 325i as a donor for $200. And I don't plan to keep this car once it's complete anyways.
Remove the xDrive stuff while you are at it :P
Since I'm selling the car is like to keep all the components together
