VDO Gauges, oil distribution block, oil temp sender, and everything in between

I got my VDO gauges and the sending units.

Water temp sending unit will be placed in thermostat housing, which I wish I could done in the block instead but I don't think I have a spare plugged hole on there (mine is 97). The oil pressure sending unit would be installed remotely with a line connected to a distribution block mounted on the OE sending unit. I've seen a few oil manifold block designs and I'm curious how you guys are liking it. An oil dist block is just a block with a bunch of holes, a DIY version would suffice too but I'm particularly interested in the Rally Road brand below, it looks pretty in blue Have you guys used this before? was it user friendly to install?

For the oil temp, ideally, I would like to get it on the oil pan (weld a bung and burry the sensor in there) and since I do plan to take the oil pan off (gasket and oil pump nut) maybe this would be the perfect timing. Have any of you done it? can you post pics?

    Thanks

This is on my list of things to do, luckily I have the unused plug on the head which I plan to use for water temp.

Have you considered this one? It combines the oil pressure and temperature into one unit, simplifying the install.

I saw this one too, they are pretty much the same really, a block with a bunch of holes. The one I mentioned above combines the oil pressure and temperature into one unit as well. I won't mount the oil pressure sending unit directly to the dist block though. It's too much vibration could damage the unit plus it would be hassle to service it. I would mount it remotely and run a dedicated oil line to the oil block.

This one you showed here is more compact than the one I was interested in. I was more curious about how they fit and the ease of installation.

    Thanks!

I mounted the distribution block (Bimmerworld version) and attached a new temp unit, the original pressure unit, and a new pressure unit.
The Rally Road version does not have all the ports to do this.
It fit fine but I had to get the orientation right. Also, I'm not running the forward manifold bracket. It may get in the way.
Here are a couple of pictures for reference.

Im running the Leatherz one for the last 8 years. No problems with vibration damaging the senders. Its a tight fit and one of the senders is pressed against the crankcase vent hose. I also have an M50 manifold installed so it may differ from a m52 manifold.

Have both oil press and temp sensors mounted on top of oil filter cover, this is Alpina brand but there are aftermarket versions as well.

I’m having a tough time to get my VDO oil pressure sender/gauge to work. My gauge is 0-80 psi and the sender is also matched to that.

The problem is that the gauge only went up to 25 psi and stopped there even when I rev
it to 5K. Cold is at 25psi, warm is at 15 psi. Oil is Mobil 1 5-W30 syn. The sender is supposed to have 10-180ohm sweep but when I measured it cold, I only have 5.7 ohm.

I got another replacement from the seller and same thing happened. I hooked up a mechanical gauge to the block and I got 55psi cold start, so my actual oil pressure is fine. I checked the gauge and it seemed to work fine with known resistor values. I got 0psi with 10 ohm resistor and 80 psi with 180 ohm. I checked my sender with air compressor and behaved similarly. So, I’m pretty sure the sending unit is messed up, but 2 brand new ones failed? What are the odd?

    Update 4/27

Got a second hand 150 psi VDO gauge and sender locally and it works normally now. I don’t like the way it looks since it doesn’t match the other 2 but I’ll keep working on it.

Today was the first time I had a chance to drive it car and pushed it. After about 45 minutes of driving my oil temp is still sitting at 200 F. I would expect this to be in 220-230 ish. Water temps sits at 190-195 F most of the time. Oil pressure is about 10- 15 psi at idle.

I’m pretty happy with the way the bracket look though, slightly recessed and tilted for better viewing...or not
