    Trunk struts

So if you've seen Doug DeMuro's youtube on the E38 you might remember his comment on how heavy the trunk was to open. My new to me car had a very heavy trunk so I assumed the gas struts were bad. Ordered a replacement set but after installation the weight hasn't really changed. Is that just how it is on these cars?

If you put new shocks it should be easy to open and a bit harder to close ( the pressure of the new shocks ) but it should not feel heavy......

I've replaced trunk struts....twice. Yes, the trunk lid will still be heavy.

Be sure to use OEM struts. Aftermarket struts will give unpredictable results.

Yea, mine were ebay specials too. Like I said it's still too heavy.
My other issue was they were about 1/4" too long. Even though they seem too weak for the application they are strong enough to be impossible to compress by hand.
I had to invent a compressor system to install them.
