I just bought a 2001 BMW 330i, I started it engine runs great, put it in reverse it reved to almost 3000 rpm before it started to crawl backwards. I stopped it and but it into drive and gave it some gas and it reved up to about 4000 rpm before it gave the slightest forward movement. Does anyone have any advice on what my problem might be a shop said the clutch is burnt, it is an automatic so does that mean it is a bad torque converter.
First I would check that there is sufficient fluid in the transmission.
Jack it up and level it out on axle stands. Start the engine and then remove the transmission fill plug.
If fluid comes out of the fill plug then its full, otherwise add fluid.
