Hello from Australia.
I’m going to look at a 80k miles 2005 (facelift) 740i next weekend.
I’ve bought a k+d-can DCAN cable, and will have INPA running on a notebook to look for error codes.
I’ve been lurking the forums for a week now and I’m comfortable with what I’m getting into. I’ve built a few Subaru engines, done countless head gasket jobs and many many timing belt jobs on Subaru’s, and work in the electronic field as the regional technical manager of a large cinema business, so the E65’s technical challenges don’t strike me as impossible. I’ve a well equipped workshop, mill, lathe, engine crane, engine stands, etc.
So I’m across the e65 v8 specific mechanical issues of worn valve stem seals and the AGA tools kit repair process, the alternator oil seal leak, of course the routine valve cover gasket failures ( Subaru never ever got this right either), and the tail shaft guibo.
I’ll be using a local bmw specialist near the car to get it up on a hoist and look under it.
Apart from the above and the usual wear and tear items, is there anything I’ve missed?
Thanks for any input, great forum you have here. I love the open sharing of information here.

My cursory take is you will be fine. I only question why a 740 and 2005. 750 have a lot more power. If I had your acumen I would get a little more power.
Just curious homie.
So, I am mulling bidding on a 2006 BMW 750 LI with 113,000 miles.
Other than the valve stem seals and alternator/valve cover gaskets failures, what are the known gotcha's on the E66 with the N62TU engine ??
