E39 LS Swap DBC vs DBW

I searched but could not find a good answer. It looks like at least one person got the BMW DBW to work with the ls DBW throttle body. Seemed like they didnt like the results long term.

When I look at pictures a lot of people have DBC setups. I think i read the early E39 98-99 still had a gas pedal that is cable operated. Are most of you modifying it to work with the chevy DBC throttle body? Does anyone have an info on what they did to make it work? Or is it better to fit a chevy gas pedal?

I welded a steel rod to the GM pedal horizontally, and used the BMW plastic pedal. it slides over/presses down on the GM pedal pretty nicely.

A cable is a cable. If you’re gonna use the DBC pedal, there’s nothing to modify on the throttle body. You may need a different PCM though, not many of them are compatible with a DBC setup. The old red/blue ones are but only a couple blue/green ones are. If you don’t know what I’m referring to with those colors, you’re still in need of a lot of research.

My setup is DBC (2000 528i) using a modified F-body cable with a Blue / Green pcm flashed as a 2004 GTO. Liquidity is spot-on about the Blue / Green PCM being very rare in DBC configuration. If memory serves, your limited to the Express & Savana vans and the 04 GTO.

If you don’t have to worry about emissions then go with the Van PCM as it’s far simpler to wire the A/C request (simple +12v vs CAN), trigger the cooling fan with A/C and you can Segment Swap for a 4L80E. My car is fully emissions legal so I had to use the GTO pcm because you “can not put a truck engine in a car”. The F-body cable needs a clevis added to the pedal side and an adjustable retainer on the throttle body.

    Good luck with your project!
