As part of my grieving process....realising I am getting older and less time for doing cars (38' Motorhome is current project) I am thinking I should bite the bullet and just do the car I have always wanted....an E21 with M30B35 in it. I drove one when I was about 23 and fell in love. So now I have 2 Baurs sitting in my shed and one is 320/6 stripped out and rust repaired and I can buy this engine and gearbox for $4400 asking price. Classic Daily are going to be producing engine mounts for around $350. I am sure there is a ton of info out there but my question is: Does anyone drive one regularly and how do you find the ride and handling plus reliability? I do a lot of country driving so I would go with a more compliant suspension setup but with all that extra weight does it turn into an over steering beast to wrap me around a tree?
includes all ancillaries, ECU and full wiring loom, including water pump, starter motor, alternator, power steering pump, etc.
Cylinder head rebuilt 2013:
Cylinder head ported & polished

Excellent condition and a strong performer. Does not burn ANY oil. Has done approx. 15,000km since rebuild. All receipts from rebuild available for inspection if purchasing.

Gearbox shifts perfectly, and has been filled with RedLine oil since 2012. Clutch has been measured with BMW tool @ 60% remaining.

I cant comment on prices since they will be inherently different from the US. But I would say just take the time to do the clutch again. Is this from a shop? Would they work a deal?
Never driven the M30B35 but I bet its a great cruiser. You are going to get some strong opinions on it here. Im genuinely curious on your thoughts of that torque monster and the Baur's chassis. do you feel like it will offer enough rigidity?
Unrelated but I am curious what rust repair you have done to your Baur?
Sorry, not the input youre looking for but it sounds like a kickass project.
there was a time around 1981 when i would hang out at mike detail's shop in southern calif, he built a couple 333i's. one weekend during that time i attended a L.A. BMW club event at willow springs raceway and detiel sent one of the 333i and a detiel built 323i. the 333i was super fast, especially for the time, but i found it way too front heavy.
there was an member that came through here maybe 10-11 years ago with a detiel car, try doing a search.

Perhaps I am looking back through rose coloured glasses:-) The black Baur was a UK import so it had bad rust in rear beaver panel so I replaced it with a complete new panel from Walloth & Nesch, some floor and sill repairs, minor stuff on the doors etc

It’s not a daily driver (weekends only), but it has a Euro spec M3034b with a Cartech Turbo system (approx. 310 hp). It’s great on long straights, but a little nose heavy in the “twisty bits”. The car originally ran a M12/7, then a M20 in Germany. I’m comtiplating pulling the M30 turbo and replacing with a stroker m20 to make the car a little closer to vintage legal.
Best of luck with your project.
