Anyone has replaced tie rod end on LCI E70? Mine is 2013 50ix, in dealer for valve stem seal replacement and they found that steering rack is leaking and they replaced that under extended warranty, however, service adviser is telling me that driver side tie rod end is seized and needs to be replace, she quoted me $1500 for parts and labor, if I don't do it there, I have to tow the car or otherwise, they won't release the car to me. I have replaced many tie rods ends on several cars that I own, including both outer and inner tie rod ends, including my 2002 540i. I understand E70 tie rod end is kind of outer and inner come with one assembly, but regardless, I cannot imagine how difficult or how big of the job it is that would cost $1000 of labor? OEM part is around $200 ~$250 at most so I am thinking to tow the car back and order the part, fix it myself.
If there replacing the rack the new rack may not come with the tierod end so installing a new one would be super simple at this stage the rack comes with the inner already by the picture I saw in reloem, tell them to explain in detail how installing two ends could cost any labor at all. If you don't get the correct answer from the service advisor I would talk to the service manager, there trying to hose you I believe. The service advisor is probably on a 100% commission program.
