I ended up buying a new problem for myself, now I have 4 problems at home (1995 850ci, 2006 325xi, 2006 M5, 2012 328i (the newest) ).
Last night, I was out driving the F32 and trying to take readings of coolant temp under various driving conditions. The car flashed a RED Pull over, stop driving, Engine Oil level low and pressure low sign and I obeyed. I switched off everything and restarted again, and everything was green and clean again.
Like most other reports on these cars, the Oil level measurement stops at 17% and quits. This is very frustrating to depend on high failure rate of electronics in the Bimmers.
There are interesting reports on bimmerfest about this nuisance. Will try to follow up this weekend and figure out whats happening.
Can I trust the last reading that was Green and Engine Level OK sign and continue to drive around ? How was this measured when it always quits at 17% during a manual check(car is level and at correct operating temp, otherwise the Start Measurement is never enabled on the iDrive interface).

PROBLEM SOLVED !
It is incredible, but the previous owner had gone to some place for an oil change and they never remembered to plug back the Oil Filter housing cap with the black plastic support tube correctly. The plastic tube was missing inside the filter housing. I swapped this with my 2006 325xi filter cap and car can now measure oil level. The bimmerpost links above were of tremendous help to put the focus on checking the oil filter.
The filter housing cap on left is from my old car, and the one on the right is from the new 328i. Getting a new cap now !!

Hey sshivaram, just wanted to thank you for posting the followup.
I had the same exact symptoms in my new-to-me 330e with 16.5K miles. I printed out this thread and your picture, and took it to the dealership. Problem solved for me too!
@sshivaram thank's a million for your finding, help, and sharing the solution with others.
I had the exact same problem: bmw f10 528i which stopped from measuring the oil level at 17% precisely. Came across the forum, went to the service, and told the mechanics that this might be the problem. They said to give it a try because the part itself was cheap ( like €30 ) and the alternative would have been a thorough sensors & electronics debugging session, we just went for changing it and giving it a shot ( thanks to this post ).
IT WORKED!
