    128i stuttering around 1800 RPMs

I have a 2011 128i and it's stuttering around 1800 RPMs. Here's additional info: it rarely stutters when the engine is cold so the first 10 minutes of driving is perfect, the amount of stuttering is minimal when I put in sport mode, I have had some rough idling when starting, I had the sparkplugs and coils changed, there are no codes, my mechanic is stuck on this one. He is now thinking transmission related. But no answers. Any input is welcomed. Thanks.

I'm no professionnal and I don't know what tests he performed, but it seems a bit early to be talking about the transmission.
Is the car manual or auto?
Do you hear grinding noises when the stuttering occurs?
Does it occur no matter what gear you're in or just on a specific one?
How about fuel filter? Has it ever been changed?
What mileage does the car have?

Just my own interpretation, but I'm thinking if it was transmission related it'd do it more when cold, not the other way around

Has to be an auto - no sport mode on a manual. Changing behavior by changing transmission modes certainly suggests it could be transmission-related. Has the transmission oil been changed? If it's breaking down due to age and heat it could be contributing to issues that appear when hot. Have you had the transmission scanned for fault codes, or is your tech using a generic scanner (which will not read BMW transmission codes)?

    Hi Jeff,
May I ask what shop you're visiting?

Take the car to Bimmer Performance Center.

Personally, with very little info, I'm guessing that you have an intake / CCV system leak.

    BPC is your best bet.

The transmission oil has not been changed. Going to try that next. My tech is a BMW only tech. He hasn't been able to read any errors at all. Thanks!

Thanks for that. I've been taking to Shade Tree BMW repair.

No grinding noise at all. However, when the car is in neutral and the mechanic reved the engine, there was a slight click on the gear shift at around 3500RPMs. And it happened consistently. Thanks.
