My Z starting making a noise that sounds like the rear defroster on a 325IC I used to own. I think I may be about to suffer a "pump dump", my fuel pump may be the issue. Car runs fine at the moment.
Thoughts? I have not changed the pump since a 2000'ish recall right after I bought it. I am wondering if a Walbro or other higher volume pump might be good for it. I have all the Dinan stage 5 stuff on it too. No super charger yet.
Well.. My fuel pump was bad. I did not check the fuel pressure on the old pump, but it must have been low. My "seat of the pants" power estimate is up slightly. Wink.
In case anyone needs this info, the Bosch web site shows the wrong pump for my car. The website shows an M3 pump, not a Z3M pump.
Web site shows Bosch 69497, which is for an M3
Actual pump was Bosch 69498
Thanks for the update and the info.
What does all this involve? Swapping pumps and keeping the plastic bits that like to crack? Not sure what the savings is but new oem pumps are not expensive. Might be worth doing the whole thing as a preventative measure.
Is there something different with s54 pumps that's makes them more susceptible to leaks and cracks more than s52s?
