the SWORD has a 5 pin connector

Pin 1 connector for the potentiometer for speed regulation at the control panel.
    Pin 2 power supply
Pin 3: the relay get's contact when the blower fan potentiometer is adjusted, 12 volts come on.
    Pin 4 is ground
Pin 5 the cable/wire from the blower fan.

I only worked once on the front windshield heater, found out that the connector left side bottom of the windshield was not connected, difficult to find, but check that first, here copied from Johan's site:
These are the terminals for the window heating, one at each side. It was just a wire and the terminal of the old shield has to be used: http://bmwe32.masscom.net/sean750/wi...ld/Image30.jpg
    http://bmwe32.masscom.net/sean750/wi...ld/Image50.jpg
Connecting the lower window heater: http://bmwe32.masscom.net/sean750/wi...ld/Image86.jpg

    indow heat element:
The lower part of the windshield in the area of the windscreen wiper blades is electrically heated to prevent the wiper blades from freezing onto the windshield. Heating is switched on at temperatures below 5 degrees Celsius and switched off at over 8 degrees Celsius. The control of this is done automatically by the climate control unit via the outside temperature sensor of the automatic climate control system. The control of the windscreen heating takes place via a relay in the power distributor. Control of the relay from the control unit is on the white plug, pin 24, cable BLUE / BROWN. The windscreen heater is not working in cycles.

See the diagrams in this link , section 5.7 and 5.8 http://www.e38.org/e32/klimaautomatik.pdf
